Guidance for everyone newly registered for an electricity meter

Every day, we at Straumlind welcome new customers who were recently registered for an electricity meter. Most of these new customers are facing big changes in their life - for example buying or renting their first apartment.
We know that you have plenty of other things to think about at that time, other than the new electricity meter and to choose an electricity provider! But, this is a thing you must do and then it is important to have clear information about what is expected of you and within which time limits.
Everything begins when you are registered for the electricity meter at the distribution company in the area where the meter is situated: Veitur, HS Veitur, Rarik, Orkubú Vestfjarða or Norðurorka.
Once the meter has been registered to a new user, the user has 7 days to choose an electricity provider, e.g. Straumlind. If those days pass without a choice being made, the user is automatically assigned a short-term provider, the electricity provider that last provided electricity to the meter, and given extra 30 days to choose an electricity provider. If the user still does not choose an electricity provider, then the distribution company will cut off the electricity.
Also, the price difference between electricity providers is substantial and you can easily be sent to the most expensive one as your short-term provider.
So, there is no reason to wait. We recommend that you choose an electricity provider as soon as you have been registered for the meter. At Straumlind registration is safe, simple and quick:
